General Nursing & Midwifery (G.N.M)

ABOUT COURSE

Nursing is a noble profession. It is a promising area offering diverse job opportunities to male and female aspirants. Nursing is an integral part of the healthcare sector. Nurses play an important role in the smooth functioning of various healthcare setups. Nursing is a discipline that focuses on the care, rehabilitation, or treatment of patients. The main objectives of the above-mentioned actions are- the prevention of diseases, rehabilitation, and maintaining good health of patients and/or the general public Nurses possess knowledge about patient care, medicines, and rehabilitation. They are trained to take care of patients and assist Doctors in supervised or independent setups.

The Full form of GNM is General Nursing and Midwifery. GNM deals with the education of nurses in general health care, nursing, and midwifery.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

GNM’s may work in a variety of healthcare settings within both the public and private healthcare sectors and may operate in hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, the armed forces, community centers, healthcare facilities, and college universities among other healthcare settings. Jobs available are:-

1. Government Job as a Nursing officer ( In all state government hospitals AIIMS, PGI, D.S.S.B, Coal Mines)
2. Military Nursing Services.
3. In Railway as a Nursing officer.
4. In ESIC hospital as a Nursing officer.
5. IN CPRF as a C.I., S.I, etc.
6. Kendriya vidyalaya (K.V) as a Nursing officer.
7. Navodaya School as a Nursing officer.
8. In B.S.F as a Nursing officer.
9. Private hospitals in metro cities like max care hospital, Apollo hospital, Medanta, etc.
10. Home care Nurse.
11. Work as a staff nurse in foreign countries like Canada, Ireland, etc.
12. Gov. of India started a course Nurse Practitioner after completing that nurse works as a doctor in rural areas and prescribes medicines to patients.
13. Now a day’s private schools also appoint staff nurses.
14. In ambulance service.

In addition to the bachelor’s program, they may also choose to continue their education in a post-graduate program where they can earn their master’s degree and find work in more prominent positions such as management and leadership roles within their profession or they can choose to work in areas related to education and research and development.

After G.N.M the students can pursue higher studies like:-
1. Post Basic B.Sc Nursing (2 years)
2. M.Sc Nursing (2 years)
3. M.Phil
4. Phd In Nursing

Laboratories

Our nursing institute is the training grounds for G.N.M students to develop their professional and technical skills in nursing before stepping into clinical practice , the laboratories are well furnished and equipped with dummies/manikin/specimens/models/charts/posters /instruments/advanced equipment and other related articles to practice nursing procedures efficiently. the students enjoy the individual hands-on experience on various practical procedures Nutrition Laboratory.

SNTI has Six laboratories as listed below:-

  3. Advance Nursing Skill Laboratory
  4. Computer Laboratory
  5. OBG & Paediatric Laboratory
  6. Pre-Clinical Sciences Laboratory

Clinical Facilities

G.N.M students are posted 43 hours per week in our 100 bedded hospital with all departments (like medicine, surgical, obst. & Gynecology etc.)

Community Health Nursing/ Field Practice Area

The students are sent for community health nursing experience in urban as well as rural field areas. Our Institute attached to primary health centre (PHC) and Community health Centre (CHC).

Seminars / Workshops / Industrial Visits / Guest Lectures / Conferences

A Diploma program is demanding hence arises a dire need to conduct extra activities apart from lectures, clinical duties, and laboratories. Activities like Seminars / Workshops / Visits / Guest Lectures etc. help the students to improve their knowledge, receive fresh perspectives, develop new ideas, improve skills, and create a network for their careers.
