ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL
SURGERY

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is the specialty of dentistry that includes inpatient and outpatient care, dentoalveolar surgery, surgical reconstruction of bone and soft tissues, dental implants to replace one or more missing teeth, treatment of traumatic injuries to the face, jaws, mouth, and teeth, treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disease, diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment oral cancer and other diseases in the maxillofacial region, reconstructive and corrective facial plastic surgery (orthognathic and craniofacial surgery), treatment of cleft lip and palate and other congenital skeletal defects, diagnosis and surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (snoring), micro neurosurgical repair of facial and trigeminal nerve disorders, and facial aesthetic surgery procedures to enhance facial appearance and function. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is responsible for the didactic and clinical instruction in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Local Anesthesia and Pain Control for undergraduate dental students (BDS) and has a full-scope postgraduate residency training program (MDS) in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. There is ample exposure to Head and Neck Oncology as well as Facial Aesthetic Surgery. The Department is fully committed to patient care, student and resident education, service to the community, and the profession of continuing dental and medical education, scientific research, and publication.
