Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry is dedicated to providing the comprehensive oral health care, prevention, and welfare to infants, children, adolescence, and those with special health care needs. Quality care is provided in an efficient and compassionate approach while nurturing advanced education, research, and service to the community. We, at the Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry, believe the most important thing is to make the child feel comfortable and stress-free to establish a positive dental attitude. The department offers patients with the latest and most thorough treatment for a wide variety of children’s dental problems, including nursing bottle decay, tooth decay, traumatic injuries, and growth and developmental problems. The department is equipped with the latest sterilization techniques, digital x-rays, intraoral cameras, electrocautery, dental laser, and most recent dental materials concious sedation.
Our goal is to provide optimal oral health to children with the best resources, emphasizing on prevention of oral diseases. The department is facilitated to treat of patients with emotional, physical, or mental disabilities. The appropriate behavior management techniques are instilled to ease nervous patients. For children with higher levels of fear and anxiety, the department is equipped with nitrous oxide analgesia and a general anaesthesia setup. Friendly, compassionate, and competent staff is dedicated to providing gentle, professional care to the patients in the community.
The Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) degree provides graduate training in different disciplines in dentistry. Each discipline program aims to prepare graduate students to become registered dental specialists. The programs foster the development of critical analysis, research skills, and advanced clinical skills that will be recognized for specialist registration. The programs prepare students to be both practitioners and advisory consultants in their chosen areas of specialization.
Services
Post graduation program in Paediatric & Preventive Dentistry is a 3 years course, confirming Dental Council of India guidelines, including a recognized Masters Degree and competency in various treatment modalities for infants, children, and adolescents.
UG Program
Paediatric & Preventive Dentistry is introduced in BDS’s Third year & is elaborated in the Fourth year as theoretical and clinical teaching under close supervision of dedicated faculty.

Course Highlights
First-year
In the first year of the PG program, the resident performs the preclinical exercises, before embarking on the clinical treatments. The resident has primary responsibility for examining, diagnosing, and treating patients in the outpatient clinic. The resident works closely with the senior residents to provide specialized treatments. A research project is assigned in the first year of post-graduation, that needs to be submitted to the university after performing the preliminary study.
Second-year
The residents work to perform procedures at par in the concerned specialty. During their term in the Department of Pediatric & Preventive Dentistry, the residents are involved in various procedures in various capacities like observing, assisting, and independently performing as a pediatric surgeon. A research project is assigned in the second year of post-graduation, as a Library Dissertation, that need to be submitted to the university after a thorough review of the topic.
Third-year
Third-year residents function as senior residents assuming the responsibility for the overall function of the department. Chief residents are involved in various procedures as an assistant or as a chief operating pedodontists. The research project assigned in the first year of post-graduation needs to be completed by third year and submitted to the university after performing a complete research study.
Clinical Experience
The three-year course exposes the residents to the complete range of surgeries in a staged and graded manner beginning with involvement as an observer and progressing to assisting and independently performing various procedures in children and adolescents.

Regular presentation of interesting cases is done by the residents in a meeting with the residents and the faculty.

Residents and faculty hold teaching rounds during which in-patients and upcoming complicated cases are reviewed.
Research and Publications
During the 3 year residency, each resident is expected to complete at least one detailed Research, one Library Dissertation, and one Publication. The residents are encouraged to take up more than one research. In addition to the above activities, the residents are required to attend speciality related Conferences and Workshops along with the presentation of Papers and Posters.
