Sri Ganganagar
Sri Ganganagar is a district headquarter of Bikaner Division in north Rajasthan. This city derives its name from its founder, Late His Highness Ganga Singh. The district has a population of about 2 million people with a literacy rate of about 65%. The lifeline of the district, ‘Gang canal’ was an idea of Ganga Singh Ji, who spared no stone unturned to make it a reality and today it is because of this canal that this part of Rajasthan is green and is well known for its citrus orchards, food grains, and cotton.
Sri Ganganagar city which has a population of about 3 lakhs, is 420 km from Delhi, 470 km from Jaipur, 290 km from Chandigarh, 211 km from Amritsar and 220 km from Bikaner. It is well connected by railways and surface transport to major cities of Rajasthan as well as adjoining states of Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The nearby airports are at Bathinda, Amritsar, Chandigarh, New Delhi and Jaipur.
