Atraumatic restorative treatment (ART):
A dental caries treatment procedure involving the removal of soft, de-mineralized tooth tissue using hand instrument alone, followed by restoration of the tooth with an adhesive restorative material, routinely glass ionomer.
Pit and fissure sealants:
A cement or resin material which is introduced into unprepared occlusal pits and fissures of caries susceptible teeth forming a mechanical and protective layer against the action of acid producing bacteria and their substrates.
Topical Fluoride Application:
The term topical fluoride application refers to the use of systems containing relatively large concentrations of fluoride that are applied locally or topically, on erupted tooth surfaces to prevent the formation of dental caries.
OUTREACH ACTIVITIES
The department also initiates various outreach programmes especially in the beset and inaccessible sections of the society alongside the masses with due concern to special care groups like school children and specially abled individual through health education, creating awareness, counselling and memes regarding oral health care.
The department has been successful in providing preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative care to the indigent free of cost. Department is privileged with 2 well-equipped, fully functional Mobile Dental Units specially and portable dental units designed to target secluded areas. Provision has been made for referral of the patients requiring advanced care to the institution at subsidized rates.
The department has also adopted 2 peripheral health centers, 2 villages and 4 schools with regular screening and treatment visits for ensuring incorporation of oral health care in the existing health infrastructure with due consideration to rural exposure to the graduating interns.
We are actively involved in organizing mass awareness campaigns through rallies, demonstrations and various health awareness programs on special days like World Health Day, World No Tobacco Day, World AIDS Day, etc. to cite a few.
The department also has an Oral Health Education Room, Museum, Tobacco Cessation Room containing plethora of Health education materials, models, charts, portraits and exhibits contributed by the undergraduate students as their project works. Prolific use of audio visual aids for health education of the masses has been widely supplemented with numerous movies that have been made by the post graduate students of the department with cooperation of the undergraduate students.
