Program Description

The program outline addresses the knowledge, procedural and operative skills needed for a Master’s Degree in Prosthodontics. A minimum of 3 years of formal training through a graded system of education as specified will enable the trainee to achieve a Master’s Degree in Prosthodontics, Crown & Bridge and Implantology, competently and have the necessary skills/ knowledge to update themselves with advancements in the field.

Admission Requirements:
Applicant must clear NEET MDS Examination held by the Govt of India. The applicants must be a Graduate of Dentistry from a college recognized by the Dental Council of India.

Program Highlights

First-year

  • Theoretical exposure to all applied sciences of study.
  • Clinical and non-clinical exercises involved in Prosthodontics therapy for assessment and acquiring higher competence.
  • Commencement  of Library Dissertation within six months.
  • Submission of thesis synopsis within six months of joining.
  • Acquire knowledge of instruments, equipment, and research tools in Prosthodontics.
  • To acquire knowledge of Dental Material Sciences
  • Participation and presentation in seminars, didactic lectures
  • Evaluation – Internal Assessment examinations on Applied subjects

Second-year

  • Acquiring confidence by clinical practice with sufficient numbers of patients requiring tooth and tooth surface restorations like Crowns, Inlays, laminates & F.P.D.
  • Fabrication of complete denture prosthesis utilizing semi-adjustable articulators, face bow and graphic tracing.
  • Adequate numbers of R.P.D. using dental surveyor covering all partially edentulous situation
  • Selection of cases and principles in treatment of partially or complete edentulous patients by implant supported prosthesis.
  • Understanding, managing & treating various maxillofacial defects & anomalies.
  • Prosthetic management of TMJ syndrome
  • Occlusal rehabilitation
  • Submission of Library Dissertation.
  • Participation and presentation in seminars, didactics lectures
  • Evaluation – Internal Assessment examinations

Third-year

  • Clinical and laboratory practice.
  • Occlusion equilibration procedures – fabrication of stabilizing splint for Para functional disorders, occlusal disorders and TMJ functions.
  • The practice of dental, oral and facial esthetics.
  • Management of failed restoration.
  • Prosthodontics Management of a patient with psychogenic disorder.
  • The practice of child and geriatric prosthodontics.
  • Implants Prosthodontics – Rehabilitation of Partial Edentulous, Complete edentulous and craniofacial rehabilitation.
  • Management of Prosthodontics emergencies, and resuscitation.
  • Candidate should complete the course by attending a large number and variety of patients to master prosthodontics therapy.
  • Submission of thesis, 6 months before the final examination.
  • Candidates should acquire complete theoretical and clinical knowledge through seminars, journal club, video club, symposiums, workshops, conferences and reading.
  • Participation and presentation in seminars, and didactic lectures.
  • Evaluation – Internal Assessment examinations three months before University examinations.

The three-year course exposes the residents to the complete range of Prosthodontic treatment in a staged and graded manner beginning with involvement in the diagnosis and progressing to assisting and independently performing various procedures like;

  • Diagnosis and treatment plan in prosthodontics
  • Tooth & tooth surface restorations
  • Tooth replacements
  • Maxillofacial & craniofacial prosthesis
  • Treatment of TMJ & occlusal disturbances
  • Esthetic & smile designing
  • Psychological therapy
  • Geriatric Prosthodontics
  • Implant placement followed by prosthetic work
  • Full Mouth Rehabilitation
  • Preventive measures

Didactic Components

Core lectures:

Includes material on such disciplines as Basic Sciences, Dental Materials, Complete Dentures, Removable Partial Denture, Fixed Partial Dentures, Implant Supported Prosthesis, Maxillofacial Prosthesis, Occlusion, Full Mouth Rehabilitation, and TMJ Appliances.

​Seminars:

Regular seminars are held covering the full scope of Prosthodontics spread over three years beginning with the basics and advancing to recent developments in the speciality.

​Journal Review:

Regular review of classic articles, current articles of importance and advancements in Prosthodontics is done at a meeting of the residents and faculty.​

Case Presentations:

Regular presentation of interesting cases is done by the residents in a meeting with the residents and the faculty.

Inter-departmental meets:

The students regularly participate in Inter-departmental meets where issues about general dental practice & recent developments in dentistry are discussed & presented.

Research and Publications:

​During the 3 year residency, each resident is expected to complete at least one detailed Research, one Library Dissertation and one Publication. The residents are encouraged to take up more than one research. In addition to the above activities, the residents are required to attend specialty related conferences and workshops along with a presentation of Papers and Posters.

CDE Programmes, Workshops & Dental Camps

The Department of Prosthodontics is actively involved in Continuing Dental Education (CDE) for Private Practitioners, Residents, Interns and Students. Continuing Dental Education programs serve to brush up on the concepts and bring to light the advancements in technology and techniques.

The CDE programs cover a wide area of topics ranging from Implantology to advanced topics like Zygomatic Implants and smile designing.

Overnight free denture camps are regularly organized by the department under a community outreach program for the exposure of the postgraduates.
